For the record, I had T'd the asst. coach, the head coach, removed the drummer from band, two fathers from the crowd, called 2 intentionals, and a flagrant.
I had a rec game a couple of years ago, where I tossed a coach, an assistant coach and a dad, all off the same team, let's call them Orange.

Next week, I had them again, against another team I'd had trouble with. (This is a very bad league and I DON'T work there anymore!) Anyway, this second week, Team Orange coaches are quiet as church mice. Never a word. Team Blue is on my case from start to finish, and lost because of shots for technical fouls in the last few seconds of the game. As I was leaving, I heard the Team Orange coach say to his assistant, "I'm glad I learned my lesson last week!"

Seems you should change your screen name to Mr Big Time, eh rook?

OK...so I was Big Timming a little. But, Dan, tell me you haven't "Big Timed" here a time or two yourself.
I used RookieDude as a screen name starting out in Feb of 2001...I thought it would be fun to ask "rookie" questions to generate discussions and the like. My time on this forum has evolved, for lack of a better word, to having to express my "veteran" point of view...on some issues.
I really don't care if you think I am a rook or not(which I am not)...I'm just here to learn a little, spout off a little, and *gasp* maybe even have a little fun while doing it.

BTW, I by no means think that I am anywhere near as good as many of the "regulars" here, as far as articulating basketball situations, rules and philosophy...but, please don't feel threatened, Dan, if others on this forum actually have big games once in awhile too. Some of us might not be able to recite the rule book word for word...but we can run the floor with the best of em'. (BTW, I've heard guys with the name of Dan have BIG EGOS....maybe because my name is Dan also)

Ok...since you asked, here are some of my philosophys...remember, it's just MINE! If some of you don't agree, fine...call your game how YOU see fit.

wrong-colored t-shirts
I usually have them take it off for my Varsity games...Middle School, yeah but, more leeway for jerseys...heck, if they have a shirt with a number on it I let them play.

uneven sleeves
No

Thunder sticks?
Probably...if someone brought it to my attention. This is more of a game management issue IMO. If a team complained about the sticks...then I could get game management to handle it. Again, I don't get to worked up about this kind of stuff.

Players sitting during a 30-second TO?
I would ask them to stay on the floor for this TO...wouldn't T them, just ask them to do it correctly next time. Haven't had this problem for Varsity games...sorry Dan, don't get upset, but I only do Varsity games and a few Middle School games at the start of the year to get warmed up. That's just the way we do it in our Association.

Rosters in by the 10-minute mark?
You're kidding, right?

Rubber bands on the ankles
Sure, and the wrists also...we have the player take the "jewlery" off when we notice it...this is a saftey issue...but no T.

Maybe I'm feeling my oats today...but, I just can't resist this one rainmaker:

Mr big time...err....rook...errr Dan -

Not sure I've ever "big-timed" it around here, unless you call bragging about working ncaa games in gyms where the players outnumber the spectators "big time". And I think my ego's strong enough that I'm not threatened by what's posted on an internet forum.

(BTW, do I know you IRL?)

Dan err....ef,
Even if you have big-timed, you surely off-set it when you admittedly went out on the floor with Chuck.

I don't think so...unless you saw me at the Washington State "B" Basketball Tournament last year in Spokane, 2003.(where I had a good tournament)
Or the "AA" Tournament in Yakima, WA in 2002.(where I sucked)
Whooops...big timed it again, sorry.

Well that to me is not big timing anything. I like to know facts like that, because it gives me at least some persepective on the officials we are dealing with in these conversations.

I have a presentation at a big baseball clinic in my area and yes, I was asked to give a bio with information about the conferences I work, the playoff levels I have reached and other officiating positions I hold and anything that might give me credibility.

I worked with a State-Final Official last night. And when he says certain things, it adds credibility to the discussion and to what I might say or think about things. Nothing wrong with letting people know what you have accomplished.

I guess I do not get offended easily.

Peace

Nothing vulgar or unsporting, just loud yelling & cheering and there was one kid who yelled this high pitched "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY". Man, was that annoying! I was getting to the point where I might have to say something to coach B...[/B]
Don't the rules allow the team to cheer?

Do we realy want to rule by complaints? If the official notices it, then it takes his attention away from the game. Its like a coach yelling, when it draws your attention, its time to address it. Maybe, different game or dirrerent officials, you have same thing and the officials don't notice it. No problem.

Why should we wait for the visiting team to complain? Why should we put them in the position of having to complain? Our job isn't easy, and asking the visiting coach to be the bad guy before we enforce anything doesn't seem the most prudent path to me. The visiting coach may not know the rule, and we're basically giving him a disadvantage for not knowing the rules.
Chuck, I'd get direction from the folks who assign for this school as to what they want. If no one else is enforcing it, the assignor will either tell you to follow suit or address it with the other officials.
Otherwise, perhaps a call to the state's governing body, or to the conference commissioner, would help you get direction on how they want the noisemaker rule enforced.

Why yes Bart they do. Did you read all of what I wrote or did you decide to stop and post right there?

Man, was that annoying! I was getting to the point where I might have to say something to coach B...I had no idea what though and I decided I should just ride it out.

Yeah Bart we want to rule by complaint. Now go out there and do it.

For the rest of us who already know we do not rule by complaint, yes there are annoying things that take away from our attention...which was the point of my little story to begin with. But we have to work through it. And there's such a thing as picking boogers. Of course one man's booger is another man's declaration of war...obviously to Chuck this was a big deal and he tried to fix it, but to me a band member hitting a drum after every score just might be a booger which you might chose to ignore. Unless the other side objects and you have to put an end to it.

Any more questions Bart?

You should expect this kind of response when posting this kind of joke. If you don't want to be rebuked, then you shouldn't post such jokes.
Many of us deal with the physically and mentally disabled regularly, and many of us also do work with Special Olympics. The joke you posted is frankly, crass, unfunny, and ignorant.
