Double whistle: Communicating with partner

Watching last night's Texas/Texas Tech game made me think about something I hadn't given much thought to. I always pre-game with my partner who should take a double-whistle in a "gray area."

One thing I have never discussed is how we communicate who is taking it. When I'm the "R" I usually pat my chest to let my partner know that I'm going to take it or I point to my partner to let him know that he should take it.

Last night I noticed the Lead official point to his partner to take it and at first I thought he was pointing at a player to identify the player who had fouled. I didn't like the way it looked and started wondering if there is a better way I can communicate w/ my partner in this sitch.

What communication signals do you others use for this?
