Any IAABO guys or gals remember?
You mean a video named "What is the correct throw-in spot?" The video that was posted on January 6?

The throw-in was from the end line but a kicked ball took place. The player's right foot was inside the 3 point arc and the left leg extended over our outside the 3 point line? That video?

Peace

Great video provided JRut. It did bring up another question and I am very confident it has been addressed but....

What do we do with the clock in this situation (inbound that is kicked)? Does the administering official quickly chop and then immediately raise the hand? Just blow whistle? No time comes off? If time incorrectly starts, do we add time? ???

The administering official should not chop the clock as the kick is not a legal touch and the NFHS rules only start the clock when a throw-in is legally touched.
Simply blow the whistle and indicate a kicking violation. No time should come off the clock, any incorrectly does, it needs to be restored.

And it's almost a sure bet that the timer will have started the clock. It's why every official needs to know the time on the clock during every throw-in.

Be careful JRutledge.

Back in 2020 when the IAABO Fall Seminar was held in Connecticut, I spoke to the IAABO Associate Executive Director about "sharing" IAABO "You Make the Call" videos with non-IAABO members (somebody in Connecticut, unknown and only using a username, was posting IAABO videos on the Forum under titles "Fun With ...") and I was sternly told that it was absolutley forbidden.

Yes, it is.

But maybe it's the original video that IAABO used for its "Make the Call" email to us.

They can't copyright the original video, can they?

In the kick video, administering official never chopped it in but the clock wound down from 1.7 seconds to 0.9 seconds.

Of course, in was 32-point game at the end the third period everybody; players, coaches, fans, table crew, police officer in the corner, custodians, concession volunteers, and officials all just wanted to go home.

Bus driver just wanted to start up the bus to get warm it up for the long, cold, ride home.

For the record, I have had this conversation with Donnie a few times. I am not just showing videos indiscriminately. I showed this because it gives an example of a possible issue. They literally are not that strict about it and I have not shown many videos overall. BTW, some of the videos IAABO uses are mine from the last couple of years, too.

Peace

Theoretically, you should just blow the whistle, but as Bob said, I doubt the timer will not start the clock. We have to get into the habit of just knowing the time on the clock so it can be corrected if need be.

IAABO has its own YouTube Channel to which anyone can subscribe.

I talked with Donnie Epply (IAABO Executive Director) last year about this because I saw IAABO Videos on non-IAABO websites and Facebook groups. Donnie told me that IAABO was releasing certain videos to groups to use so that IAABO can show what IAABO has to offer to all basketball officials.

And yes, there was a time when IAABO was very protective of its products.
