Ball lodged...or is it?

A player shoots the ball and it appears to be lodged between the rim and backboard. Most players stop their movements, thinking it is stuck. The officials do not blow their whistles. The ball, however, is actually, ever-so-slightly, moving when a player jumps and dislodges it.

Is this some sort of goaltending or basket interference at all?

Not sure I see how this happened, but in FED to be goaltending the shot must be above the ring and on the way down. To be BI, the ball must be ON the ring or in the cylinder.

Neither happened in your play, as I envision it.

(Specific rules might vary on other codes)

Basket interference.

The brace is part of the basket.

1-10-1: Basket: Each basket must consist of a single metal ring, 18 inches in inside diameter, its flange and braces, and a white-cord 12-mesh net, 15 to 18 inches in length, suspended from beneath the ring.

4-6-1: Basket interference occurs when a player: Touches the ball or any part of the basket (including the net) while the ball is on or within either basket.

If the ball is lodged, it's not "ON" the basket.

Does it matter that the lodged ball has absolutely no chance of falling and ending up in the basket, thus no basket interference, offensive or defensive, should be called?

Basketball Rules Fundamental Sixteen ...

If the ball is touched by a player after it lodges and but before an official gets a chance to sound a whistle, does this apply?

Basketball Rules Fundamentals
16. The official’s whistle seldom causes the ball to become dead (it is already dead).

Thus, no basket interference.
