Michigan St. vs Marquette. Approximately 8:25-8:20 remaining in 1st half. Marquette defender deflects ball and it passes through the ring from below, and passes through the ring again from above. Play was stopped and Marquette was given possession. Why?

It's a violation to cause the ball to go through the ring from below.

Correct. Wondering why the ball was given to Marquette, unless it was simply that the official thought it was last touched by a Michigan State player…

If I recall correctly, it was definitely deflected up by MSU's Sissoko

Just watched it. There were two opponents close together, but MSU-22 tips the ball up through the basket.

Thanks! I had only had the one look and thought Marquette touched it last.
