IAABO Survey Says …
Disclaimer: Below is not a NFHS interpretation, it's only an IAABO interpretation which obviously doesn't mean a hill of beans to most members of this Forum.
https://storage.googleapis.com/refqu...mMy8Nw9w%3D%3D IAABO Play Commentary Correct Answer: This is a traveling violation. The ball handler ends her dribble on her left foot and then steps backward with her right foot and then again with her left foot before trying for goal. If one foot is on the floor when the dribble ends, it is the pivot when the other foot touches in a step. (4-44-2.b.1) In this case, when the ball handler stepped with her right foot, the left foot became the pivot foot. The pivot foot may be lifted but not returned to the floor before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal. (4-44-3.a) In this play, The ball handler lifted the pivot foot and placed it back to the floor before releasing the ball to attempt the try. This is a violation and correctly ruled by the Trail official. Here is the breakdown of the IAABO members that commented on the video: This is a traveling violation 87% (including me). This is a legal move 13%.

If you've got a 3 person crew drawn at random from this group there's a 34.2% chance that at least one of your officials thinks this isn't a travel. ![]() (Also even if the gather had been with the left foot in the air, the right foot gets moved during the step back too) Last edited by youngump; Tue Apr 20, 2021 at 01:53pm.
