This is why it is important to actually SEE the contact you rule a foul. I hate it when players and coaches (and fans) say, “how could you not HEAR that?” Might have been illegal contact I didn’t see, but there’s just as much chance the contact could have been on a hand that was in contact with the ball, or the sound of a teammate making a slapping sound nearby in an attempt to deceive an official. Happens all the time. So I stopped caring about slap sounds long ago. Gotta see it.
