On play #2 I can see at least one rationale for calling a foul--the ball goes off his hand while his wrist is being slapped. If this is the last 2 minutes, video review would be giving the ball to the defense.

And that...the fact that it would go to the defense if reviewed is the reason to just call the foul. In fact, it would be a shooting foul. Given that, even if it were not a review, why would it not be a foul any time? Getting the ball OOB is not a just result for being fouled while shooting. It might be for a non-shooting foul, but this contact took away what was otherwise a fairly easy shot.

As for the first play, yes, the official was fooled. That was not a PC foul.

You're right.

And the dead giveaway was that the defenders knees buckled first. If he was hit and displaced, that would have never happened.

If he doesn't flop what are his options? Keep getting back downed or hold his ground which usually ends up in a call against the defense. I don't know why he has to man up and keep absorbing the contact to the chest.

1. The only angle we have on the play is worse than the angle the L had on the play. I'll go with what he had since he could probably see between A1 and B1.

2. Seems like a nice block since first contact was directly on the ball dislodging it from A1's hand. But, if an airborne shooter is still a shooter until returning to the floor, then that contact is a foul. Send him to the line.
**I might also consider a foul on B1 for contacting/pushing A1 in the chest with his off hand before the shot is released. Tough to see in real time, though.
I'd be willing to bet I've called this OOB for a blue throw-in a thousand times, though.

I was watching the end of the 4th video and kept rewinding to see how he made a call from that distance and that angle. Then you highlighted it in video #5. Trail was trying to look around two players and was quite a distance away to make that call.

Lead was right at the play and if there was anything he should have had that call. Didn't appear to be anything but a steal.

#4. F1. There was no reason for that...a non-basketball play.

#5. The trail guessed. There was no contact....well, no contact with anything but the ball. Don't guess!!

Edgar Cartotto

I remember roughly 20 years Edgar Cartotto saying that the lead should double the side line when the ball is inbounds in the backcourt and then get to the endline after the initial first play.

Cant see the lead on this play but I bet he is on the endline...

Edgar would be disappointed with your video viewing skills. Very first segment of the clip shows Teddy V on the sideline looking right at the play, though he does backpedal away from it.

Jamie knows better than to blow his whistle from such a terrible (or non-existent) look.
