Enforce or Blind Eye?

You're the U in a time out. You notice player A-1 disrespectfully addressing HC-A, to the point of berating.

The warning horn sounds. Coach A points to the bench and orders A-1 to sit down, and sends A-6 to check in for A-1.

Stop the sub or blind eye?

No blind eye here. I will support the coach in that decision anywhere, anytime.

We need the coaches on our side, I’m not going to antagonize a coach (or undermine him) when he is teaching sportsmanship, respect, and consequences.

The kid is less likely to be disrespectful to us when he comes back into the game.

I would probably realize what is happening and allow such a substitution. No different than an injury in theory. It also will not help the game allowing a kid in the game that is really beefing with his coach.

Peace

Based on how the question was presented you would be turning a blind eye to the substitution rule.

And that is the correct thing to do. As I referenced in another thread and find myself repeating quite often the rules book instructs us to "know the intent and purpose of a rule so that it may be applied intelligently in each play situation."

Here it is obvious that the coach is appropriately handling addressing his player's behavior and not trying to gain an advantage not intended by rule. If the opposing coach questions it then you can easily explain the situation and how you would do the same thing for him.

Anyone insistent on going by the letter of the law here is likely not someone I'd want to work games with.

Agreed, mental injury. "Cause that player lost his mind."
