H.S. Games: Cheerleaders along the End Line.

1) I do not know how to set up a poll, so if some one would like to insert a poll into this thread I would appreciate it. My poll question is: Does your state allow cheerleaders to cheer along the End Line? Yes or No. And if Yes, what is the minimum space required for the cheerleaders to be along the End Line.

2) Anybody can answer the questions in (1) in regular posts below.

MTD, Sr.

I keep them outside the 3 point lines.

Yes they are allowed in AZ and I just tell them they wouldn't want an old sweaty man running into them and they back off to let me work.

Where else would you allow them? It's a little cramped along the sidelines.

It all depends on the size of the gym, the unobstructed areas around the court, and the safety of players, and the officials. It will vary from site to site.

I once had an adult fan standing against the wall on the endline of a very cramped gym. He kept getting in my way as the lead. I asked him to please move over to the side. He replied that he was the school's principal and that he would stand where he wanted. I countered that I was in charge of the safety of all the participants, including the officials, and that he should move. He moved.

This.

Cheerleaders all over the place depending on the size of the gym and where there is room.

Never heard of any cheerleader rule, sorry MTD.

A few think it's a real rule. Most get it, especially the cheerleaders.

And no, this is not one of Mark Padgett's rules.

Shouldn't it be vice versa?

Good point. Maybe, in the future, I'll mix it up a little.

My rule is "don't touch the hot moms." Of course, I have an exemption.

My state says "Follow the NFHS rules and mechanics". That's about all the guidance we get.

If I run into them, they are too close. That is where the line is drawn.

You got that right! - did that once about 10 years ago. I was sprinting down the sideline covering a fast break when one of the cheerleaders leaned into the court to get a better look. I saw her at the last scond out of the corner of my eye and tried to adjust - we hit glancing shoulder to shoulder - not much of a contest...175# of me at full speed vs. maybe 115# of her....she went flying & slid on her backside for about 15 feet. Fortunately she wasn't injured.

We don't have any specific rules, but if we think there is a hazard or they may interfere with play we make them move.
