Question

In my association, cheerleaders are not allowed on the floor for 30 second time-outs. Only 60 seconds. Anyone know where this is in the rule book, case book, or officials manual? I can't find it and it may be something specific to our association. Thanks.

College rule page 88. "...only during a full timeout or an intermission."

I believe that is why the 30 second time out posistions are so close to gether, to eliminate room for the cheerleaders to do cheers, is this enough, because i don't have a rules reference.

I'm thinking if they can do a cheer within the first 15 seconds of a short time out , before the first horn, then cheer away.

I know it would take my mind off the game!!

This isn't a basketball rule. You won't find it in the Rule Book. It's a spirit and cheer rule. In the NFHS Sprit Rules Book you'll find the rules that prohibit cheerleaders from taking the floor during 30 second timeouts and during live ball situations.

In NC, our state association also includes this information in the Basketball section of our state handbook.

hmm, never been an issue, I 've had cheerleaders using bullhorns on the floor and told them they had to stop usingthem for that reason as it was considered an artifical noise maker.

I remembered reading this a couple of years ago and went back to my old books and found it.
NFHS 2001-2002 Rules Book page 72 Comments on the Rules Revisions
Under the requirement to stand during a 30-second time-out there is the sentence: "Additional discussion reflected concerns about some states not enforcing the 'no cheerleaders' on the floor during a 30-second time-out and whether or not substitutes should be permitted to join the conference with coach(es) and players."

Where else it appears, I have no idea.
