6:45 mark of the second half, block/charge play.

I'm trying to figure out for the life of me what the defender did to deserve the blocking call. Did he lean into the offensive player as contact occurred?

Also, the lead made this call from the opposite side of the lane. Would this ideally be the C's call?

We don't know whose call it is without location on the court and without knowing if it was a primary or secondary defender. That is pertinent information if you want to discuss crashes.

And now with the hindsight of the video, we know this was a secondary defender. Officiating 102: On drives to the basket from outside the L's PCA, T/C has the drive/primary defenders and L has the secondaries.

Great coverage, good call. This one was textbook.

Agreed, that seems like an easy block call to me.

Easy call... charge all the way! Jk jk, a little officiating humor there, although I do know some officials that would have called it a charge, believe it or not.

I don't do a lot of 3 man, so I'm not as up on 3 man mechanics and I wouldn't want to say whose call it was, but to me it was an easy block call. Defender was moving into the path of the offensive player, never established any sort of legal guarding position.

Right. The video will tell the whole story.

Off the top of my head, it's in the front court. The L is on the end like, opposite the table. A1 has the ball between the wing and the corner table side. He drives to the basket and crashes with B1.

Hopefully someone will be kind enough to post the video and we can discuss it from there

With the benefit of full screen and pause button, it appears the defender was still moving forward when contact occurred. As to Lead making the call...he's probably the only official that had a good view of the play, IMO.

The quality is so poor (not blaming hoopsaddict) that it's hard to tell. L had started to rotate, so he was looking right at the play, and it is a secondary defender.

Well Jay Bilas does say 80% of these plays are blocks so...

Let's ask the college officials among us: this call looks like its based in the recent change of ruling on block/charge to increase scoring. Looks like W43 did not obtain his legal guarding position prior to B35 "gathering" or "begining" his try for shot. note:W43 is clearly outside the restricted arc. In NFHS, a defender is only required to obtain LGP prior to the ball handler "leaving the floor". I believe NCAA require LGP earlier.

Irrelevant in this play. Defender never made it into the path....never had LGP in either rules set.
