10 "Bizarre" MLB Rules

Found this on Facebook.

10 Bizarre MLB Rules We Just Found out About - Answers.com

I don't think they are all that bizarre, but what ever....

The one that I think got totally screwed up is the rule on passing. The presentation says that if a baserunner passes another baserunner, the runner that is passed is out. I thought it was the runner who did the passing.

Didn't follow the link, but you are correct on the rule.

Some are correct but some are completely out of wack.

I thought these we wrong.

Lefty pick-off moves; ?????
This is totally wrong.

Passing;
Definitely wrong.

Substitutions;
"A rule enacted by the MLB says that a player must bat or remain in the game after being announced by the public address system".
Where in the rule book is this?

My book says:
3.07 The umpire-in-chief, after having been notified, shall immediately announce, or cause to be announced, each substitution.
Isn't it the umpire's announcement the author is referring to?

I have comments on some others.

Swing and Miss;
Could be a called third strike.

RBI for a Walk;
I guess the author is concerned literally with the term batted ball.
The batter completed his time at bat and because of this, a run scored. Sounds like an RBI to me.

The one about pine tar is essentially true I guess......Unless you are George Brett.

Ground Rule Triple;
There is no such thing as a "ground rule triple". This is a book rule three base award for detached equipment.

Accidental drop;
It says "......if the ball is accidentally dropped by a pitcher while on the mound, it can be considered as a "balk"".
The author should explain when it is not a balk.
Why is that bizarre?

Bottom line is the author did not have much to do that day and maybe should acquaint himself with the rules before posting this nonsense.

And the starting pitcher and all substitute pitchers must face a batter (or end an inning).

Still doesn't come cloe to matching what was posted about that's in the article.

No, they amended 1.10(c) after the Brett incident to codify the umpires' ruling; the bat gets tossed out, but there is neither an out nor an ejection.

So, chalk up another "wrong" for this site.

1. Wrong
2. I have no idea what they were trying to say. Are they saying it's a perfect game if you retire the first three batters of the game in order?
3. Wrong.
4. Correct (with runners on base of course)
5. Wrong.
6. It's not called a ground-rule triple, but correct, as long as you actually hit the ball with your equipment.
7. Wrong.
8. Also if the catcher drops a called third strike, and not if first base is occupied with less than two out.
9. Correct.
10. Correct

So only 4/10 correct, and that's counting the three-base award one. Considering this is baseball, a .400 average is pretty good, right?
