NFHS: On-Deck Circle
What is the penalty for warming up in the improper ODC and what is the rules reference that goes with it?

Reason I ask is because a NFHS Part II test question.
An offender shall be ejected on the first offense when: a. a player loosens up to bat in the opposing team's on-deck circle b. a player leaves his bench area for the purpose of physical confrontation c. a coach uses replay equipment for coaching purposes during the game d. all of the above B and C are no brainers aren't they? I didn't think A was but if B and C are then D has to be correct making A also correct.

No, it's not.

Rulebook clearly states that this is the exception and the coach will be ejected on first offense. But we're not ejecting for warming up in the wrong ODC are we?

Team warning first and then ejection per FED. I usually just shoo them back to where they belong and give them an etiquette lesson in how that works.

So this question needs to be thrown out because B and C fit, but A does not.

The correct answer is (b).

for (f) warn and then eject the coach, no matter who is the next offender, That's how I read it. |

Question (maybe it's a hijack but it's the same rule): on the 1st fake tag without the ball offense - is obstruction called? I would think so. |

I think there's a caseplay that ejects without warning.

Quote:
PENALTY: At the end of playing action, the umpire shall issue a warning to the coach of the team involved and the next offender on that team shall be ejected, except for (f), where the coach shall be ejected. In (b), it is also obstruction (8-3-2). Now, I can certainly see where you might think that a warning is given in (f), but as stated in this thread case play 3.3.1 JJ indicates it is an immediate ejection.

I see this was a change in last year's book.
In 2012, the case was HH, and there was a warning, and then an ejection. In 2013, the case was still HH, but now it was just an EJ. In 2014, the case is now JJ. |
