This is why the 90 degree angle mechanic can be flawed big time.

Peace

He *wasn't* 90 degrees, though. He was considerably more than 90 degrees.

Looks out to me! :p

I do not have a goniometer to know what actual degree he was in relationship to the bag. All I know if he was closer to the line, he would have seen clearly the foot being off the bag. He took his angle away and obviously seem to assume this was routine in nature.

Peace

He looks to be about 45 degrees to me. Had he read the throw and adjusted better he could have gotten into a better position. But I also agree that 2-3 steps fair here would've been a much better angle.

If straight-lined, he would be 180°.

He's 180° to the fielder but not the throw.

Even if you know you're 100% right?

If so, that's not good umpiring.

Always?

If that is the goal, why would you always ask the PU for help? What makes you think they see the game or angle that you do? And even if they see it, certainly does not mean they are right either. And we cannot compare what we do to what they do at the MLB.

And as said, coaches want things their way, they are not looking for what is right or correct based on the actual call.

If he does, he will blame the miss on Bush.

And then would miss a play where the foot was pulled off to the front of the base.

No position is the perfect one for all situations and all positions can be improved by taking a read step when necessary.
