Hit by pitch?

Rumor has it that a Cincinnati Reds batter was hit while swinging today but still awarded first.

Anyone see this? I tried to find video on the Reds page but it wouldn't play.

Guess they ruled it a checked swing. Or maybe the ball hit him before he went around, so it was dead before the swing?

In any event, it wasn't ruled a swing...so a batter was not awarded first base when hit by a pitch while swinging.

Yes.

No. That's not an option: the pitch would have to hit him before the swing started. If he went around, he went around offering at the pitch.

The video doesn't tell us much about the ruling, but I think it's safe to infer that PU and/or 1BU ruled that he didn't offer.
