The Play by Play for the 9th inning:
Top 9th0 run, 2 hits, 0 error Tampa Bay 5, Florida 5 Barden in as shortstop. Nunez pitching. Helms in as third baseman. Crawford singled to right. Crawford was caught stealing, catcher Paulino to second baseman Uggla, Crawford out. Longoria walked on a full count. Pena lined out to right fielder Stanton. Zobrist singled to center, Longoria to third. Upton grounded into fielder's choice, shortstop Barden to second baseman Uggla, Zobrist out. Bot 9th0 run, 0 hit, 0 error Tampa Bay 5, Florida 5 Helms batted out of order. Coghlan struck out. G.Sanchez flied out to right fielder Zobrist. Looks to me like they properly called Helms out for not batting when Barden came up and walked in the 9 hole (combining the PBP with the article).

Here is a tip

Quote:
Just because Barden went to short and Helms went to third does NOT mean they replaced that particular position's former player in the lineup. Barden could take the F5 slot and Helms the F6 slot.

Exactly, it could have been a double switch. The only way to know what really happened is to have the audio of the PU and manager's conversation.

Uh, yeah - I know that. I highlighted it to make it clear the moves were simultaneous. In fact, what you state was clearly the reason for the BOO... one party thought it was double-switch, the other didn't, and it wasn't cleared up before the wrong batter batted.
