Faux Umpires

Anyone see these two guys who go to ML games and mimic the HP Umpire. While watching the Blue Jay game on Sunday, I saw these two guys in the first row just to the left side of the umpire. They wore blue umpires shirts and had umpires masks on all the game.

On a strike they would in unison raise their hands in a strike call. For fouls they threw their hands up in the air. Then they would stand up reach in their pocket for a ball and pretend to throw it to the pitcher.

They need practice on their checked swings signals though.

By the 8th inning they had the Blue Jays mascot doing the same thing while sitting alongside them

Really weird.

There's a story on MLB about them. Apparently, they did it last year, then went on a "tour" of several stadia recently. It's all for charity.

Don't worry...I missed the "mbyron owns the board and will hammer away at minutae if you dare err" clause when I registered too!

I have no idea what you're talking about. I've corrected nobody in this thread. On the contrary, the point of my previous post in this thread was that 'stadia', while CORRECT is pedantic (even by my standards). It's a shame that I have to spell that out for the rest of you.

And if you're all so sensitive, I can think of several solutions, including getting a clue, leaving, and shoving it up your old address.

So did I. I thought his response (datum and fora - both likely more rarely used than stadia ... and also correct) was genius though.

Or, just writing in blue......

OK, on second thought, don't!

It’s a guilty pleasure watching these guys call the game from the front row on TV. They call balls & strikes, foul balls & even (fake) throw the ball back to the pitcher on a foul back to the screen. It’s quite entertaining and the people around them in the same section all seem to love the act.
