I saw these before, but I forgot how great they are.

"This is a great field for Little League. There's no holes in the backstop. You could have the LLWS here."

But my favorite baseball video of all time is right here (watch out for the language):

YouTube - Earl Weaver

Oh gosh. That's too much. I can't watch anymore. Ok, maybe one more!

Did you see in this video while ole #7 is talking to the camera, a kid is warming up the pitcher without a mask on?
C'mon ump. What if he gets a tooth knocked loose, a broken nose, or an eyeball popped out?

OK, I've gotteon hooked on this "How To Be A Baseball Umpire" series. Personally the funniest clip-

YouTube - How to Be a Baseball Umpire : Equipment for Baseball Umpires

at 1:30, "A very important thing, I can't show it to you, is a cup"...

how to be a Baseball Umpire by San Diego Steve.

I'm still trying to figure out why my name is associated with this garbage. I guess it was an attempt at humor, but I am not finding it funny. Here I thought I would see a very professional looking and speaking person in the video, such as a major league umpire, which would be much closer to how I would make such a video.

MTD, Jr. and I belong to two umpiring associations in the Toledo area. One assigns H.S. baseball and fastpitch softball and H.S. summer baseball and fastpitch softball, as well as travel league baseball and fastpitch softball and slow pitch softball leagues. The other association only assigns travel league baseball and fastpitch softball and slow pitch softball leagues. The membership of the first association are all OhioHSAA registered umpires; the second membership is made up of both umpires who are OhioHSAA registered umpires and umpires who are not OhioHSAA registered umpires. The same person is the assigner (and member of both associations).

Last night I had a travel league (11U) baseball game assigned by the second association. My partner was straight out of the video. He was not an OhioHSAA registered umpire. He worked the plate. He wore his hat backwards all of the time, wore a red (frame and pads) catcher's mask, and a watch on his left wrist, and did NOT wear any ball bags (he stuffed the game balls in his pants pockets. I will say this, he did wear heather gray plate pants and plate shoes.

Now that's baseball they way it used to be. Love it! The umpire was just as good was Weaver was. Love it when he says "I aint going no where Earl", classic line...

Which is cooler, his velcro-closure hat worn backward, or the ultra-hip zip front shirt ?

Personally, I prefer "YOu're full of sh*t Earl, F*ck you." Umpiring at it's best.
