Balk?

The announcers called it a "horrible call." Enjoy:

LA Angels vs. Baltimore - April 28, 2009 | MLB.com: Gameday

After watching the video a couple of times, I have to agree with the announcers. The pitcher did step toward first, not home. I was all set to say that the announcers were full of crap, but I agree with them this time.

This time I have to agree with the announcers, too! I watched the clip several times and I cannot see where F1 balked at all. Of course, we only have the one view and who knows what the PU actually saw but the call really looked bad.

HOF Pitcher Jim Palmer is one of the announcers. Jim knows nothing about the rules and makes me irate, because he constantly disagrees with the Umpires.
I have even heard him say, several times "the tie goes to the runner" and "he didn't break his wrists on that check swing" "or the bat did'nt go in front of the plate"
I do agree this time. I don't see a balk. Jamie Walker (P) said in a post game interview "I dont have a pickoff move" "I don't think I've ever been called for a balk" "i'ts a Horse$hit" call" I think he will be fined for saying "I don't know if he (Hernandez) had money on the game, or what."

The announcers did get one thing wrong: Time is not called on the balk, it's called when F3 catches the throw.

Whew! Glad to see that I'm not the only one that didn't see a balk!

45 step - OK
Gained distance - OK

I could not see a balk from that angle...

R1 runs off the field, thinking he is out. If he had even thought Walker did something funny, he would have stayed around to appeal his case with the Umpires.

sometimes the runner will show some disagreement with a call if it was a border balk/no balk...not that they make the call, but in this case...the runner appeared to be going on first movement and wasn't surprised when he was gunned out. I couldn't see the balk here either...in this sitch, doesn't U1 have the best angle here? I was surprised to see Hernandez call the step balk as opposed to U1

I don't see anything. It wasn't even a good move to first, just a regular throw over.

that's what led me to believe that R1 was going on first movement.
