Anybody know why Ed Montague is wearing a beanie ?

Ed is old, he is having a hard time adjusting to new technology, like the combo hat.

He also makes calls at the plate with a bat in his hand.

Just in case the catcher gets mad...

I don't really care what he wears. He's still got more World Series than I do.

Here you go... when you become in charge of the MLB umpires, or his Crew Chief, then I think you should worry about what/why he is wearing a Beenie......and did you ever think, maybe he like to wear it?

He actually looks halfway cool. As long as you have that seasoned veteran look, you can get by with the short bill.

Maybe because after 33 years of being a MLB umpire, he sees no reason to change.

Or, maybe he isn't a slave to fashion.

How about that he's entitled to wear whatever is approved.

The question should be, does anyone (other than you) care?

Sorry to offended the Ed Montague fan club. I think he’s a fine umpire.
I have not seen too many guys wear the beanie, and I thought it was interesting so posted it for discussion. You are right he does pull it off with a don't screw with me look.

See JM that’s why it took me 3 years to start posting.

I agree that this is not a great look for any umpire. But for some reason there is a MLB logo on top of that hat, so it must be approved. It looks silly, but who cares. All that really matters is do you get the plays right and what you wear is ultimately up to you boss. None of us run MLB, so it is not our choice to say what should be worn. The next thing you will get mad because someone has white on their shoes.

Peace

I don't remember seeing him work the plate in a non-beanie style hat. His old picture on the MLB.com umpire section also had him in a beanie.
