It's terrible advice.

A catcher's protector is designed to offer protection when the catcher squats down in a catcher's position. Watch to see how that protector leaves open body parts (such as the collarbone) when the catcher stands. It's necessary - the catcher must be able to throw and play as unimpeded as possible.

Umpire protectors are completely different.

No matter what protector you use for a female, I would also suggest a protective sports bra as well. I work as a university equipment manager and alot of our female rugby players are wearing these.
