Why would you give it back? The molester award aside...often times there are situations where people feel that somebody doesn't deserve an award for whatever reason. again, the molester award aside.

I see what you're saying JJ, but I don't quite understand how your award would be cheapened because they stupidly gave an award to somebody who is in the .0000000001% of our umpire circle...those who deservedly earned the award...have placed their individual value on that specific award. thoughts?

What molester award? I thought they gave him an award for his umpiring service.

That reminds me of the Nobel Peace Prize. If they can give one to Al Gore it can't be much of an award.

That was an AP story. I'm glad it got picked up in Miami. I wonder whether CT cared at all.

They gave one to Jimmy Carter too, which I think makes Lou Piniella eligible automatically.

I have to agree with JJ, on first glance it would appear to cheapen all the others since they gave the award knowing what this person is.

I do not see how this cheapens anything. The people wanted to honor a person and made a mistake. If I had received an award or was a member, I might not be happy, but I would not be give back awards or resign just because of this incident. I am not personally responsible for the actions of other people.

Peace

You are correct. My comment was only at first glance it would appear to cheapen the others. Maybe I should have said more but didn't. I think the problem I had with the award was their comment they knew about the problems he has and decided to award it any way. Sorry if I came across as saying the others were less than outstanding individuals. I should have completed my original comments or not used the quote and comment that I agreed. My bad.

That is on the board and the people that made the decision, not everyone that received the same award in the past and certainly not everyone in the future. I guess I do not have enough information to be satisfied to have such a strong opinion either way. People make mistakes and decisions were made to correct those mistakes. I bet there were people that did not even know he was a convicted sex offender or the history.

Peace

The Peace Prize is the joke of the Nobels. Even Yasir Arafat got one.
