Update on "But is he a Smitty?"

Someone on the softball board discovered that the award to the convicted child molester has been revoked.

I'm thinking that after the award became a national controversy...it was a good idea to take the award back.

Still, it doesn't excuse their poor judgement in the first place. Can you really expect to put the genie back in the bottle?

I agree with you waltjp

So do I, which makes taking it back even worse than giving it in the first place!

another good point...even though it looks crappy...taking the award back was the right thing to do. either way it made national news...

:( Sort of cheapens all of those award that organization gave out previously....I don\'t know if I\'d keep mine....too bad...

Why would you give it back? The molester award aside...often times there are situations where people feel that somebody doesn\'t deserve an award for whatever reason. again, the molester award aside.

I see what you\'re saying JJ, but I don\'t quite understand how your award would be cheapened because they stupidly gave an award to somebody who is in the .0000000001% of our umpire circle...those who deservedly earned the award...have placed their individual value on that specific award. thoughts?

What molester award? I thought they gave him an award for his umpiring service.

That reminds me of the Nobel Peace Prize. If they can give one to Al Gore it can\'t be much of an award.

That was an AP story. I\'m glad it got picked up in Miami. I wonder whether CT cared at all.

They gave one to Jimmy Carter too, which I think makes Lou Piniella eligible automatically.

I have to agree with JJ, on first glance it would appear to cheapen all the others since they gave the award knowing what this person is.
