I agree...I think all gymnastics judges should sit in a living room and umpires should be on the bench. They are the best seats to call the events from

I have never understood how "artistic" sports are judged anyways *shrug*

You're joking, right? This explains perfectly why a bean ball war would be going on.

Nastia made only one small error, and should have won the Gold outright, not lost in a silly, moronic tie breaker. Just my correct opinion.

Oh, and Alicia Sacramone got totally hosed off the podium in the Vault by incompetent judges who awarded a medal to a Chinese girl who actually fell to her knees on her landing.

Nothing like good ol' home cooking!
Now how did that line in the movie go?

Sadly its' all (or much) about personal preference. As a concert pianist I spent much of my younger life (master's degree in piano performance) playing competitions and most of the time it all depended on what that particular judge liked personally etc,.

Surely there are standards, but when it really comes down to it, if he/she didn't prefer the type of piece I played, it was judged much more harshly than if I played something in the genre they preferred.

I'm sure gymnastics has much of that also.

Thanks
David

Way OT, but interesting.

The main problem is that the IOC does not allow a judge to be from the same country as an athlete that is competing in the competition.

So, you end up with a bunch of judges who are not the most qualified to be there.

I can't imagine MLB saying umpires couldn't umpire which ever team their Dad used to take them to see when they were five
