Probably some history here between the two involved, but yes the umpire baited him. No other reason to come out after a foul ball.

And if the player did say what was mentioned above, he deserved to go.

Thanks
David

Bait 'em then run 'em was a taught technique at one time.

Well,...if the umpire told him to stay in the box as a result of that mini-dance step, then it seems clear he was baiting the batter.

I don't doubt that this was a carry over from previous activities, but the umpire's game management skills - at this point - don't appear very professional.

I don't see that. Actually, the batter's actions in this snippet seem to me to be completely normal. Of course, I don't know what happened before, or what was said, but there is no reason at all to complain about this particular approach of the batter into the box. Rule 6.02(b) comment doesn't describe a specific choreography that a batter must follow to enter the box, but does require a batter to stay in "once a batter has taken his position in the batter’s box". The batter here takes a normal amount of time to enter the box. Just 15 seconds have elapsed after impact of the foul ball before the batter is in his stance, and the PU is out from behind the plate and remonstrating the batter.

This is a video of one at bat in a baseball game. Where's the other two or three hours of video showing all the good things that PU did?

I have no problem with the ejection. Also the Minors changed the rules on walking out of the box. So the umpire from what I know had the right to inform him of this violation. And if the batter cannot learn to use better language or to comply, then he needs to go.

I am tired of umpires/officials always being responsible for the bad behavior of players and coaches. He was doing his job; he does not need that kind of response.

Peace
