carlos lee breaks up DP

Posted elsewhere also. What didn't I see in the live action that does not make this Int.? "Anybody see the live action of Carlos lee breaking up a DP with no Int. called. I just saw a picture in the paper where he caught the base with the foot as he grabbed the SS leg. The SS was inside by about 5'. Definitely had a foot touching the base but the arm action would have me calling Int. But HTBT. Link to pic: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/photos...meId=280621130

I suspect that the 2B umpire was old school. I've seen less than this called in recent years in MLB.

U2 was Alfonso Marquez, so not exactly a 30-year vet. Even if the play happened "right around" the bag, wouldn't the takeout at the knee be enough for INT if if impaired the throw?

You are all complaining about no INF call in a MLB game. I am not going to comment that the call was not made as MLB does what MLB does. I only hope that if you are officiating at the youth, HS or NCAA level, and see this happen, you come up right away with the INF call!

Keep in mind that the MLB Rule is no where near the NF or NCAA Rule. This would be a no-brainer at the NF and NCAA Rules set and philosophy as to what should and should not be called.

Not true: the rules are similar; the enforcement is radically different. Though, as I've said, I've seen MLB call INT most strictly of late.

I should have said the rules are not the same. You can have a runner do a lot more to take out a fielder in OBR than you can ever have in NF or NCAA. Even NCAA allows for a runner to go directly into a base and take out a runner if they are standing behind or on top of a base. And the fact you said enforcement is radically different, also illustrates my original point as well.

Like every call in baseball, the best angle is from the dugout or the stands. Umpires don't have a shot in heck to get the call right.
