Illegal Substitute

College game playing NAIA rules (OBR with modifications)
Scenario: In the 4th inning the DH draws a base on balls. Manager chooses to pinch run for the DH. The NAIA modifications allow each starter one re-entry, with the exception of the Pitcher and DH. In the 6th inning, the manager re-enters the original DH back in to hit. For the opposing teams benefit, does the opposing team coach need to wait for a pitch to be delivered to this illegal substitute to appeal, or does the illegal substitute simply need to take his place in the batter's box and the UIC put the ball into play?

NCAA 5-5j-1 defines an illegal substitute; on offense, "If he is at bat or on base, he is out."

See also 5-5b AR 2: " A substitute becomes a player when he reports to the UIC and is entered on the UIC's lineup card."

Out when illegal sub is in the box and ball is in play, but shouldn't UIC nip this in the bud by not allowing the illegal sub to re-enter the game?

NAIA does not use NCAA rules.

Oops.

The BRD reports an e-mail from PBUC concerning "illegal re-entry" under OBR

I think the suggestion that there might be a penalty here is what sent me back to NCAA.

So if the illegal sub comes to bat and goes yard, you are going to allow the HR and then remove him from the game?? I don't think that is correct.

That is the OBR rule. I have no idea what the NAIA-specific rule is on this (if any).
