Houston Area Umpiring

It looks like there is a good chance I will be relocating to Houston sometime next year. Fortunately it seems there is plenty of good baseball down there.

I am looking for some recommendations for umpire associations around the Sugar Land, Bellaire, and downtown Houston areas that cover older levels of baseball such as American Legion. I already know about and will be checking in with the Houston Chapter of TASO.

I also have a few questions about TASO/UIL:

Do they use straight NFHS rules or are there exceptions?

What kind of mechanics does TASO use?

Does TASO Baseball use the point system I've been hearing about in Football and basketball?

On a somewhat off topic note, I've heard the traffic is bad there (as it is here). What is travel time like if I am coming from my work place in downtown Houston?

Thanks!

Prepare for the hot weather

Don't do to many games behind home plate the heat of Houston can get you very quickly. They do have good baseball because they can play year round.

Welpe, when will you get to Houston?
There is a lot of ball to be called, when you get down here you will see. TASO is in need of umpires to cover a lot of their high school games. Then you have some guys who assign high school summer ball, when you join TASO you will know who to contact.

Thanks JFlores, I figured TASO would be the best place to start.

If I do relocate, it will be sometime in the first half of 2009 which means next season will probably be a no go for me.

Summer baseball and football season should be fun then. I'll have to offset this with good Texas BBQ.
