New Umpire

I am a college student looking to pick up some JV or Freshman games around the area (Southern Mich.) Area to get some good experience before going home for the summer. Did I miss the boat on everything in that regard or could i still umpire some games this year?

Best bet is to contact the head baseball coach at a local school and get the umpire association info. Being in the upper mid-west I suspect you will be able to work this year.

You might still be able to get on. However, there might be a late charge. Looking at this website (http://www.mhsaa.com/resources/official.htm) I see the last two rules meetings, which you have to attend, are tomorrow.

I'm not an official in Michigan but it looks like you want to work this season you'd better get on it.

Tanner,
I do not know of any rules meetings that any official must attend if the official does not care to work the state tourney.
In fact, we have a rules meeting tonight that I am going to miss.

There is probably no late fee for a new official and registration can be done online. Contact with high school athletic director can answer the question of need. Contact with local officials association listed on MHSAA site would also help.

Your link is good.
