I know the feeling. I picked up 15 classes last year with straight A's. I couldn't help but think of my first time going through college and ponder, "If only I knew then what I know now."

If your plate pants were rotting out because they were salty and sweaty that means you weren't washing your plate pants on a regular basis, meaning you were not maintaining your equipment properly. That means if you were umpiring with me and were wearing a pair of salty, sweaty, rotted out pair of plate pants I would make sure that I would be standing up wind from you at all times. There no excuse for not keeping your gear in good repair. Sorry you still don't have a winner.

Johnny, I got 16 A's and 2 A-'s. My GPA is 3.960. A's are A's, but I was disappointed with my A-'s. All my classes were 4 unit classes, 72 units total. I would have loved summa but will settle for magna.

MrUmpire, classes at computer technology schools are normally accelerated and so 15 classes for Garth sounds right if he went for a whole year at night.

Let's return to reality, shall we? The reality is that amateur baseball is called by a very large number of umpires who don't meet your exacting criteria for pants excellence. Or shirt excellence. Or jock strap excellence for as best as I can tell.

These DeNucci imperfects allow our children to play baseball. Without them, how many thousands of games, and kids, would never be played or play? My children included.

Go right ahead, make fun of my lack of money and my split pants if it pleases you. Make fun of those umpires less fortunate who aren't DeNucci-labeled and aren't worthy of a look down your turned up nose.

It's the Old Guard standard. A self-righteous ball of hypocrisy as if you were Kings and Princes of an elite, executive society.

We are officials, in service to the game and its participants, nothing more, nothing less no matter how you want to overvalue your $15 per hour status.

One does not have to spend a fortune to look professional. It does not take a lot of money to properlay maintain your officiating equipment. Wash your pants regularily and they will not rot out from salt and sweat.
