Retouch after 3rd out
Can a runner legally retouch a missed base after the 3rd out has been recorded?
Example: Bases loaded with 2 out. Batter hits a single scoring R3. R2 tries for home. R1 misses 2nd on his way to third. R2 is gunned down at the plate for the third out. R1 then realizes he should retouch and does so (after the 3rd out). The D then appeals R1's miss of 2nd. Do you call him out and nullify the run, or has he legally retouched? Please show any interps/rules that are applicable. |

If the ball is LIVE, then the runners have as much right to continue playing (i.e. correct baserunning errors) as the defense has to continue playing. Yes - he can retouch. David Emerling Memphis, TN |
