Any of you guys get jerked around by the league like that?.
Nope, that is why all games you do are through the association here.

You don't receive a phone call that the game is cancelled, you get paid by the association.

If you choose to go outside the association, you get what you get.

What do you mean by "through the association here"?Well I have to move up and do better levels of ball eventually. I can't just do 12 and under house league stuff all the time. That is very sleazy of them to not pay a cent for gas miledge, but that doesn't mean I can just give up on the league. You're acting as if it's my fault that I didn't get adequetely compensated.

What are the usual procedures in your area?

If someone is supposed to call you, and they don't, then you should be compensated according to the contract (which might not call for any compensation -- and you could try to change this for next season).

If you are supposed to call someone and you didn't, welll ....

If neither, then you should take the initiative and try to reach someone.

You DID have a contract, didn't you? How about a cell phone? If I wake up and it's raining, and nobody calls me, I call THEM. And your partner - did he drive 35 minutes, too? And did HE have a contract? Where was HIS cell phone?
You get burned ONCE like this and you pay more attention to details like....RAIN....

I do believe it was 35 minutes he drove. If he can cover 135 miles in 35 minutes, I want his car!

What I meant was "here" where I live. CT.

They contract with Leagues and there are clauses that are required for the leagues to follow, just as there are clauses that the officials must follow. In each case it costs someone money if there are screw ups.

Now, if in your area you have to contract your services out independently, then as already has been suggested, make sure you have a contract wether written (preferrably) or verbal.

There are many leagues and managers out there that will spend bogoo bucks for equipment, travel and everything else for their teams except, when it comes to the officials. Then they want to nickle and dime you to get your services free. yes some volunteer work is admirable and sometimes good just to get your name out there however, you spend a lot of money on equipment and time learning this profession, you should be justly compensated.

Heck most of us should make $400/game just for all the time we spend on this forum!!!!!
