I'm a Yankees fan and this stuff is rediculous. Sure the runner was out, but it was a banger. Joe was probably blocked by F4 recieving the thrown in front of the bag. It was a bad throw by Posada, so maybe they didn't even deserve an out.

Joe West didn't give up hits to the next two batters, why isn't anyone blaming the pitcher?

Then later in the game, Posada was called safe at first on a double play ball. He was out by a quarter of a step. But you don't here Yankees fans crying about that.

Then Jeter gets strikes 2 and 3 called on him to end the game. After strike two he told Wilcox "that was off the plate" as he returned to his side of the plate. Next pitch, same spot (maybe a cm more outside) and Wilcox rang him up. Overhead look showed the pitch probably just clipping the black on the outside corner.

You're down 5 runs, 1-2 pitch, close, and you're not swinging! Whose fault is that!

Yankee fans and players in general (not myself) need to get a grip and realize that the team is just not that good. Stop making excuses, and maybe then they'll get better.

I'm a Yankee fan and I've read the thread and I don't see anyone making excuses for the Yankees losing. I'm just a little exasperated that Major League Umpires could so piss poor in the execution of the standard and accepted mechanics for getting into position to make a call. Both West and Davis didn't hustle, they walked, strolled even. Both West and Davis were still moving when the play happened instead of coming set. Both West and Davis made no effort to adjust their angle to a situation that clearly called for it.

West and Davis are two of the best umpires in MLB, which is why it is even more befuddling that they would be the two to miss a call, in Davis' case a gross miss, that was caused directly by an apathetic lazy approach to a standard situation.

Now I'm not putting the Yankee loss on West. That was a close play. However, that would have been the third out of the inning. Three more runs scored after that. With the right call, that game is a lot closer and a lot more fun to watch, late. Missed calls happen and one of them doesn't cost any team the game. I just hate it that the call was missed because West didn't hustle. There is no excuse for that...

He's being lazy again tonight - hasn't missed one but he is just strolling to position and continues to stroll to make his call.

Well that's it then. Joe West, Gerry Davis - no more umpires selling protective gear!

What about retired football officials?

THEY'RE OK Walt. They won't make calls against the almighty Yankees!

I bet he nailed that balk by Farnsworth though....;)

Then again, if he had thrown the ball it might have hit Joe in the head.

I did not know that Major League Umpires walked on water. ;)

Peace

Whew. At least there's someone left that I can purchase gear from.

Excuse my ignorance Walt, but who's the former football official who sells umpire stuff? I thought the only football protective gear was hunkering down behind a defensive tackle!

What do the Yankee fans think of the no call on A-Rod's slide into second Monday night?

I think that if interference were called I wouldn't have argued the call at all.

PU and West called the balk at about the same time...
