Arnold,
they all deserved it. that's a shame that behavior was in a 15yo game... |
Ohmygawd, what horrible behaviour on the part of the players.
Makes me appreciate the behaviour we have here in Israel on the part of both baseball and softball players. Shmuel |
On the type of ejections you describe, I usually kick them out of the park, too. In fact, in some SP leagues around here, an ejection requires that the offender leave the premises. Did you let these guys hang around?

Nice job. Sucks to do...but we have to keep control of the game. Way to have some guts!

I would have hated to have been in that situation, but you did everything right. You didn't eject anyone, you merely formalized it when they ejected themselves.

Arnold A- the Sheriff
Nice job, you did the right thing, and I hope your local league squashes somebody over this one.
Now, in one association I used to belong to there was the Sheriff's Award competition. Some of you who know me from previous days and board know the story, so please exucse me for the repeat. But there was a system set up where you got so many points per ejection, and the winner got a beverage at certain watering holes in the area. I think the scale was like 5 points for a player, 10 points for a coach, 15 for the manager, 1 or 2 points for a fan, and there was another catagory or two (maybe for other sports). Bonus points also can be awarded. So, using the scale here, Arnold A is in the lead at this pont in the season: 3B coach (adult asst.) jumps up and down screaming "What the f**k was that?" and "You're f**king horrible!". I eject him. (that's 10 for A) On-deck batter and the manager come up to me. Manager wants to know why I ejected the coach. Asks if the coach's First Amendment rights were suspended when he walked on the field. I tell him that this conversation is done. On-deck batter says "So if I tell you that you suck, you'll throw me out?" I eject him. Manager comes back yelling that the kid was only asking me a question, I'm power mad, I'm awful, etc. I eject the manager. (That 20 more, he's up to 30) Batter-runner walking by me on my way to right field says,"You f**king suck". I eject him. First base coach (a player) calls me a cheating sonofa***** in Spanish on his way to the dugout. I eject him. (We'll count the 1B coach as a player, he's got 40, but that could be an appeal play in this case :D ) As I am making notes of the uniform numbers of the last two players I've dumped, The pitcher coming out to warm up says, "Must think you're a big shot now, huh". I instruct him to warm up and mind his own business. He says, "What you gonna do, Hoss, toss me?" Which I did. (Add 5 more, it's now 45) After the game, three parents apologized to me, including the parent of the first base coach and the young man himself. (IMO, I'd give Arnold 20 more points for all the foul language ejections and picking up the Spanish one, and 15 more points for the apologies he got) He's got 80 Anyone close to that score yet? :D |

Well, they aint' complete angels, but let's just say they can carry a tune pretty good. I've been umping seven years and had to eject a player only ONCE, and have given no more than three warnings (for bad behaviour, that is). The baseball guys tend to be better behaved than the softball (fastpitch) guys. Go figure. Shmuel |
Arn...good job!! I had an EJ on a HC, for bumping me. First time for that!! He was out of control, arguing with me, the other teams asst. coach, HC and AD. He was losing 27-2 at the time, decided to pack his team and head for the bus prior to the game being over. OK by me, I asked the AD to include that in his little notes to the commissioner.
Incidently, this coach is an ex-major league player. |

Some of the ex-MLB players I know have a poorer concept of the rules than the average fan. |
