If you look at the picture, the catcher is where is he supposed to be, the umpire is about 2 feet inside the catchers box. Normally im about on the inside edge of the line, not much further foward.
What if the catcher likes to sit close to the plate? Do you still stand way back there? That's fine if you are working the GD stance, but not too good for any other stances.
The umpire should stand wherever he wants to. The catcher can adjust from there.
