Hit Runner

I've had a brain fart and have started second guessing myself on this sitch.

Runner on 2b no outs. B1 hits a linedrive up the middle and hits R2 who is standing on 2b. Is he out? I know what you are thinking, "why isn't he leading off"?

Lets use MLB and also use the same sitch in little league where they are not allowed to leave the bag until the pitch crosses the plate.

Cool

wmandino,

As presented (OBR or LL) the ball is dead, the R2 is out, the BR is awarded 1B, any other runners return to their TOP base.

"new" OBR - 7.09(k)
"old" OBR/LL - 7.09(m)

The thing that always runs through my head when that situation comes up was something I read here..."The base is not a safe haven if a runner is standing on it and gets hit with a batted ball. Bases are in FAIR territory. Runner hit by batted ball in fair territory is out."

With one exception, of course. That's the hazard of reciting bromides.

Not if the infield is playing in and the ball has passed an infielder other than the pitcher.

True, but you have to recognize what the word "passed" means in different codes.
