Had he made the comment within the confines of the field, while he was in uniform being paid to do his job, that would have been a no no. It's not as if he got into an argument with the fan, just a simple quick 'jab' got the point he wanted to make across. While I agree the absolute best thing he could have done was just walk away, there are far worse options he had that the course he chose.
