opinion question. In my Assoc we are emphasizing keeping the batter in the box if he does not make a legit attempt to avoid an inside pitch, per FED, and thats fine...some of my best 'discussions' have come from my interpretation of this rule

However, when a batter is hit on a pitch that skips in front of the plate (hits him on the bounce), are you FED guys more lenient on those along the lines of, "once it hits the ground NO ONE knows where it might go," or is it all the same to you?

Just trying to sort my thoughts on this.

I am much more likely to award first base when the ball bounces.

the bouncing of the ball indicates a poor pitch, so the burden for this situation lies on the shoulders of the pitcher. This can help in determining whether to award first.

I am much more likely to award first base when the pitch bounces.

It must be obvious that they are purposely not avoiding the pitch or they are getting awarded the base. The pitcher lost control and hit them (or hit them on purpose) and this is on the pitcher - I have called it a ball.. but that is rare and when it is obvious they took the hit on purpose.

Same

First game this season, I'm PU, big looping curve coming in so slowly I could read the logo.

LH BR stands there like a statute, and plunk! gets it in the middle of the thigh.

He starts towards 1B, and I and the BU simultaneously tell him to go back to the box.

Not a squeek from anyone!
