Pitch ends up on top of backstop padding
Yesterday during a LL majors game, a pitch in the dirt ended up on top of one of the pads behind the plate. Catcher got it easily while runner stole 2nd. He appealed but I let the play stand. Was that a dead ball? I can't remember if the catcher threw the ball to 2nd but I doubt that'd have any bearing....

Depends on whether you defined that as live-ball or dead-ball territory prior to the game. Either way, the runner ends up on second (assuming R1 was the only runner)
I don't know the filed, but since the catcher "got it easily" it probably should have been defined as live ball territory. Now you'll know to cover that during future games at that field (and others like it). |
