Baseline

They called him out of the baseline, which he was giving up pretty much anyway... But was is the rule about the baseline? It looked to me like he just took a step or maybe 2 small steps... so maybe 2 foot or 3 foot outside the direct path between 2nd and 3rd... i thought there was some judgement built in to the umpire. He avoided the tag but didnt go crazy into the outfield...
