How do the scores work ?
I've just discovered baseball and am still trying to figure the way scores work. Can anyone tell me what the "error" part -if that's what the "e" stands for- refers to ?
Also, do the hits and error impact on the final score or not ? Thanks in advance |

The error (or hit) itself doesn't add or subtract from the score but may have a bearing on whether or not the affected runner is able to score.

The only thing that matters to the score is runs -- when a runner touches all four bases in order before three outs are made. (There's more, but if you are just learning, that's enough.) *HOW* the run scores -- hits, errors, other -- does not affect the score.

Making an assumption that you are from an area where football (soccer) is a major sport (aka anywhere but the US)...
Runs are like goals...in the end, they're the only thing that matters. Hits and errors would be like shots on goal or foul counts. They are interesting statistics that might give you some insight to how the game was played, but they really don't mean a thing for scoring purposes. |

a runner advances to the next base during a pitch (without the ball being batted, and without it being a "wild pitch" or a "passed ball")
