Defensive PAT Value?
I know the rule here but on another site(not rules related) people are saying a defensive PAT return in NCAA football depends on it was a kick or 2 point attempt. Would someone please state clearly and unequivocaly that ALL defensive PAT returns are worth 2 points to the defense. And if possible cite the rule so I am not called a liar. Thank you very much

The table of scores lists a touchdown as 2 points when successful during a try.
A field goal is worth 1. However, only Team A can score by means of a field goal. Team B's only scoring option is a touchdown, which is the aforementioned 2 points. Should they try to score via a field goal somehow, it would be an illegal kick, and with the loss of down, would nullify any possible point scored. That's just my Canadian understanding of NCAA rules.

In NCAA, as mentioned, during a Try (extra point / PAT in fan language)
A touchdown is worth 2 points. A successful kick is worth 1 point. A safety scores 1 point. Using their logic the defense would only get 3 points if they blocked a regular field goal and ran it back. But we all know that would be a touchdown and 6 points. It's all pretty simple using the point value chart in the NCAA rule book as listed. |
