Well technically, there used to be only 2 Armed Forces: Army & Navy.

Air Force used to be the Army Air Corps. The Marines used to be an extension of the Navy.

Now there's 5 Armed Forces: Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, & Coast Guard.
