In studying this years test at an officials meeting, the question was "is it illegal alignment if the RF on Team R has one hand touching the floor on and over the centerline at the moment of serve? " I thought it was OK for the hand to be over the centerline and touching the floor as long as the hand was touching the centerline too. Please advise and offer the ruling in the book if you know it. Our state rules interpreter says it IS illegal ( OHIO ).

See Rule 6-2-1.a.
"At the moment of serve, all players except the server shall be within the team's playing area and may be in contact with the boundary lines or the center line BUT MAY NOT HAVE ANY PART OF THE BODY TOUCHING THE FLOOR OUTSIDE THOSE LINES". Your state interperter has it exactly right though no interpertation is required. For once, the rule book is clear. |

Thanks Homer.
As usual, you are right on the money. I looked up the rule you listed and it is VERY clear. I wasn't thinking as much about the serve violation as I was the centerline violation. And I presumed because the hand was ON the centerline when she was touching the floor over the line, she was OK. I don't know why our Meeting leader didn't have that info. It would have saved me troubling everyone. Thanks Again!!
