Religious jewelry

I received an email from a local high school AD stating that one of his players wears bracelets and that these are for religious purposes. "She will be allowed to play while wearing them."

Does the FED book make an allowance for religious bracelets? If so, do they need to be taped to the skin (like medical alert bracelets in basketball)?

If not, is this email from an AD enough to waive the rule? I would think it would require a waiver from the state association.

I would check with your State Association, but the AD doesn't get to make that decision, unless they have that waiver in hand. Just my thoughts.

Agreed.

Religious jewelry is supposed to be taped under the uniform. As explained to me, it's a personal decision so taping it under the uniform still allows the individual to have that personal connection to his / her deity of choice.

I don't have this year's NFHS rulebook. Could someone please post the actual rule about religious jewelry, please?

4.1.tb Religious medals are not considered jewelry and shall be worn under the uniform and taped to the body.

4-7-b: Religious medals are not considered jewelry and shall be worn under the uniform and taped to the body.

Unless it's a long sleeved jersey, it's hard to consider something on the wrist "under the uniform."

Interesting. Because these aren't medals. Seems like it's not covered by the rule.

Similar situation here with a Hindu bracelet. We were instructed to by the state allow it if it is covered by tape (while still on the wrist).
