Warm Up 15-Second Horn

Where in the book(s) does it discuss the timer sounding a horn at 15-seconds in the each of the 2-6-6 warm up periods?

(Yes, I admit this is a stupid question. )

It doesn't.

That's when the double-whistle is to be used.

Rule 5-5-3b.13

Keep in mind that the specific timing of warmups is not an NFHS rule. Those are determined by the state (or in rare cases, the league).

That rule deals with timing / warnings for TOs. I was reluctant to automatically extend it to warm-ups

And, if the book(s) don't cover it, that explains why I couldn't find it during a quick perusal.

I suspect that there isn't mention of the 15 second double-whistle warning for warmups in the rule book, since warmups aren't determined by NFHS.

FYI: In our area, we have been instructed to add the 15 second double-whistle for warmup periods.

My practice is to sound the horn with 15 seconds left in each of the warmup periods and at the end of each period to remind teams to change over. However, this may change to a long whistle if I am working a game at a venue where multiple courts are used.

In my area of IL, we were told to use the horn during warm ups. After that, time outs, between sets, etc, it is the 15 second double whistle.

And that's what I've been told, too -- I was just trying to find it in the book(s) -- now that I understand it's not in there, I'll stop looking. I understand that other areas may do it differently -- I (personally) do not want a poll on all the different ways of doing so.
