I think you're missing my point.
What, exactly, did the umpire do to mislead anyone. "Nothing" is what they were supposed to do. No one out at home - no call of out by PU. No play at 1st. No call by BU. Where is the misleading? Indecision AFTER the player stepped off did not cause the player to step off.
