Bro, if that photo is compressed for distance, that guy is about 15-20ft from the play.

The apparent lens compression is from the lens to the subject, not from side to side ![]() In otherwords it makes things appear closer front to back. If you are photographing someone standing 20' from the comera and someone behind them standing 25' from the camera, the person in the back would seem to be maybe 22' feet from the camera. But if you have the second person standing 20' from the camera, but 5' to the side, The telephoto wouldn't have the same effect.. That's an oversimplification, but it's true. |

So what you are saying is we really have no idea who is standing where in relation to each other.

She could be about to run into the catcher or she could be a foot or two behind her (from the angle we are viewing). Are you sure she is about to run into the catcher? |

I can't really tell much from the photo regarding obstruction. Positioning is three dimensional, not two. What appears as pictured is if PU was to start at point of the plate, he could better adjust for a 3rd base line extended call, assuming this is a play at a plate that we can't see.
The perception from the photo is he took a typical ASA 1st base line extended calling position too deep to adjust, so I imagine he could be blocked on a tag. It could be a force, but seems would still be straightlined to the throw. Then again, the whole pic looks faked, like it was photoshopped. There's no fans or spectators in the backdrop, no dugout, no base coach, no lines, no base, nothing. Just weird. |
