Way back in the day I had a pitcher field a grounder and retired the batter wearing a catchers mitt. Speaking two weeks ago to some Ump's in my group they still thought this rule was current. I could not remember what the solution was when this would happen. As you know anyone can use a mitt now in ASA.

Because at the time I was typing I couldn't remember whether 4.6.C.8 was affected by the recent changes involving unreported substitutes.
